Sea Isle City Jitney Fare to Increase in 2025: What You Need to Know

Iconic Sea Isle City NJ Jitney on Landis Avenue
Sea Isle City Jitney $1 Price Increase

If you've spent any time in Sea Isle City during the summer, chances are you've hopped on one of the iconic green and white jitneys that cruise Landis Avenue. Whether you’re heading to dinner, enjoying the nightlife, or taking the family out for ice cream, these jitneys are a reliable (and fun!) way to get around town. But next summer, passengers will see an uptick in fares for the first time ever.

Starting in 2025, jitney rides before 11 p.m. will cost $3 per trip, up from $2. Late-night fares—after 11 p.m.—will remain at $4 per ride, offering consistency for the night owls.

Why the Fare Hike?

The fare increase is part of an ordinance introduced by City Council to help jitney operators cover rising expenses, including fuel and insurance. Although the jitneys are independently owned, the city oversees their operation and must approve any fare changes.

“We looked around and it’s comparable to what other towns have done,” City Solicitor Paul Baldini explained during a recent Council meeting.

The Sea Isle Jitney Association, which represents the owners, approached the city with the request for a fare adjustment. The final vote on the measure will take place during the City Council meeting on December 24 at 10 a.m.

Summer Essentials: Jitneys in Sea Isle

The jitneys run daily from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. during the summer months, from July through Labor Day. Their route covers Landis Avenue from 94th Street near Townsends Inlet Bridge to 29th Street at the north end of town.

Whether you’re grabbing a bite to eat, heading to one of the local bars, or simply soaking up the Sea Isle vibes, the jitneys are a convenient and affordable way to travel. And let's not forget—they’re an important safety net, keeping the streets safer by reducing the number of people driving under the influence.

Plan Ahead for 2025

If you're planning your next trip to Sea Isle City, be sure to factor in the fare changes for jitneys. While a slight increase, the convenience and safety they offer are worth every penny. Plus, those late-night rides are still holding steady at $4—perfect for a post-bar crawl ride home.

What do you think about the fare hike? Share your thoughts, and don’t forget to mark your calendar for the City Council meeting on December 24 to have your say!
