Hey, Sea Isle City! If you've been wondering about what's happening with The Ludlam hotel, restaurant, and bar complex, we've got the scoop. The owners are gearing up for some major changes, and here's what you need to know.
The Ludlam Liquidation Auction
Before the iconic Ludlam complex gets demolished, there’s a huge liquidation auction happening online on June 22. Over 1,000 items from the hotel, restaurant, and bar will be up for grabs to the highest bidders. If you’re interested, head over to geyerauctions.bidwrangler.com to check it out and place your bids!
What’s Next for The Ludlam?
After the auction, owner Christopher Glancey confirmed that demolition will follow later this month. The plan is to redevelop the property into an upscale boutique hotel, which will retain the beloved Ludlam name.
The New Ludlam: What to Expect
The new project is set to be a game-changer for Sea Isle City. Here’s what’s coming:
26 Hotel Suites: Luxurious accommodations for visitors.
20 Residential Units: Perfect for those looking to own a piece of Sea Isle City.
Restaurant, Bar, and Bakery: Delicious dining options right on site.
Second-Floor Swimming Pool: Exclusive for hotel guests, offering a relaxing retreat.
Construction Timeline
It’s a big project that’s going to take some time. According to Glancey, “It won’t open until the summer of 2026. It’s a big project. It’s going to take two full years.” Construction is set to kick off in August after the old complex is demolished.
Planning and Approval
Glancey and his business partner, Bob Morris, are planning to seek formal approval for the project in July from the Sea Isle planning board. Fingers crossed for a smooth approval process!
A Nod to the Past
The Ludlam complex was formerly the LaCosta Lounge, a famous bar that hosted generations of party-goers for 50 years. Before LaCosta, the site was home to historic businesses like the Bellevue Hotel and Cronecker’s Hotel & Restaurant from the late 1800s.
A Vision for the Future
Glancey and Morris are no strangers to development in Sea Isle. They bought the LaCosta Lounge in 2018 for $7.3 million and have completed several successful mixed-use projects in the area, including The Dunes, The Cove, and The Cape. Their vision for the new Ludlam boutique hotel is to create a destination that brings both economic benefits and a new level of sophistication to Sea Isle City.
Glancey believes the new Ludlam will have a significant impact, similar to The Reeds at Shelter Haven in Stone Harbor, by attracting visitors year-round and supporting local businesses. “The project has always been about hotel rooms and the demand for hotel rooms in town,” Glancey said. “We’re going to remake this corner and bring it up to its best and highest use not only for the hotel rooms, but also as the best use for the community.”
The Legacy of Ludlam
The name Ludlam honors Sea Isle’s early history, as the city is located on Ludlam Island. The island was named after Joseph Ludlam, who bought the land in the late 17th century.
Stay Tuned
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development! It’s an end of an era for the old Ludlam, but the future looks bright with the promise of a new, upscale boutique hotel.
